September 2024 - A Seasonal Diary

A seasonal diary of nature spots and little moments

And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.

Hello September

Ohh September you have thrown us into a cosy bubble pretty quickly. After that marvellously glorious August I wasn’t quite ready to be pushed into woolly hats and jumpers just yet. You had a pretty misty cold start but I think on the whole you have been the most lovely septembery September. So many blackberries, a never ending glut of courgettes, blue skies, turning leaves and apples too. A nice mix of warmth and cosiness all in one.

I went for the most beautiful walk in the mist and got some pictures of the cows sat happily in the field. I was sat on the computer a mountain of work to do but decided a walk was more important and I’m so glad I went. The Hawthorne berries - I’m not sure I’ve ever appreciated how amazingly beautiful the Hawthorne bush is in September. I found a particularly knurled old one and thought it deserved a photo.

The swallows and house martins seem pretty busy, I’m not sure how much longer they will be here for but there definitely sounds like there’s chicks still in the nest on our house.

Toby’s First Walk

A Puddle filled, duck flapping, cow licking walk

I have been looking forward to this, finally I can watch them both explore the farm together, my heart is full. Toby is turning into Teds best friend (And arch nemesis it has to be said) and it’s magical to watch. I’ve been looking forward to Toby becoming a proper little person, I’ve never been overly keen on the baby stage, as cute as they are I love this time now, I want it to last forever. They are both so funny and exploring the farm with them is my favourite thing in the whole wide world. So many puddles, so much mud, so many nature treasures to find. The walk started by saying hello to the cows, then we visited grandads ducks in the hidden overgrown pond. Crickets, there were so many crickets in the grass by the row of bales, we looked for ages and nearly gave up but eventually we found one. He was black and green, very fancy. I think after a google he was a common green grasshopper but I didn’t get a photo so can’t be sure.

September In Watercolour

Stories from the studio, a little glimpse into my watercolour creations from september

Urm… september was pretty quiet on the drawing front, mainly I just packed and posted calendars.

What has September been like for you? Have you seen anything out in Nature that’s made you smile or just peeked your interest? I would love to know, tell me in the comments below...
