september - A Seasonal Diary

An September Review

To come at the end of the month

Nature Notes

3rd September - Cooler with wet ground today and an overcast sky. The willow trees are losing their leaves and they’re blowing around in the wind.

4th September - Walked around Cusworth Hall with Ted and Dad, fed the ducks and found lots of beach nuts and acorns.

5th September - The tree canopy seems full of song this morning in the forgotten wood, chaffinch and young goldfinch and even the chicory seems to be enjoying the recent rainfall and todays sunshine. The speckled woods and whites are keeping me company as usual. Witnessed a wall butterfly get caught by a spiders web in the garden and spotted a fox dart across the road in front of our car. (Possibly the same fox that’s just killed our white chicken.)

18th September - A group of Lapwings, forgive me I don’t know the plural were making a racket in a newly ploughed field. Finally got a photo of a white butterfly, they always close their wings when I approach to take one. Now is it a small or large white? Anyone know?
