Mood Board January

a collection of photos and words I've used to create the January edition of the Monthly Illustration Club

It's soon to be a new year, a new start, so I thought it might be nice to bring you in on the process of how I come up with the designs for The Monthly Illustration Club. Every bundle is sent out with some sort of colour theme and is inspired by the month ahead. I am unfortunately a creature of moods and so rather than fight them, I accept them and I follow them. This means some months the bundles are a little silly, sometimes they're more serious and naturist and sometimes you can tell I've definitely created the cards at a particular time in my monthly cycle because all I've painted is food and alcohol. I hope this means each month is really quite a surprise and hopefully you'll have a stack full of cards perfect for most occasions. Anyway, let's get to it. Here's a collection of photos and words I've used to create the January edition of the Monthly Illustration Club.

Mood Board

When I Think Of January

When I think of January I think of snowy winter scenes.

Of nipped fingers and toes.

Cool lights poorly penetrating snug dimly lit rooms.

Of frost covered trees and foggy kitchen windows.

Silent and still, life hibernating from the cold.

Steam rising from the kettle on the wood fired stove.

Hats, and gloves and warm fur lined boots.

Logs, fires, a steaming cup of tea or maybe a hot coco.

Whilst I'm writing this I haven't a clear picture of what it is I'm creating for the cards, more just a feeling and a knowing of colours. I only hope and cross my fingers that you like what comes from my pen and paints as I go.

(Written a couple of weeks ago! Since this the bundles have been painted, printed and packed)
