An Autumn letter
Dear Autumn,
I hope you are windy and crisp; I hope you bring with you log fires, novels and hot chocolate. I hope you are long and golden and keep the winter chill at bay. Autumn, I hope you crunch when I walk, I hope you show me squirrels and wild boar scavenging for nuts and blackthorn hanging heavy with sloes. I hope you have gin and hot mulled cider. Autumn, I hope you are here finally for my nostalgic heart has missed your golden embrace. I yearn for the comfort of the hearth and woollen blankets; I yearn deeper still for the festive anticipation and the belly warming stews. Autumn, I hope you will guide me, hold my hand as the cool breath of winter freezes my toes and renders my heart and head blue and melancholy. Autumn, will you prepare me, fill me with warmth and joy so that I might bare winter in comfort and peace. Autumn, you are the change I need, the inspiration, the fresh release from the stagnant strangle of a hot late summer. Autumn, from you I draw energy, I draw love and I feel I am ready, strong and sturdy and full of fresh life. Autumn, you are my true gift.
I thank you for being you. My Autumn
