Autumn Pleasures
If You Didn’t Already Know
…I LOVE AUTUMN
I know this year Autumn isn’t looking like the socially enticing prospect it usually does. Bonfire night will be fairly cold when we’re all two meters apart and Halloween certainly won’t be the same without a mixed household girly sleepover with Harry Potter and marshmallows. But! There’s still some joy to be had. In this anxiety ridden time I want to soak up every little pleasure Autumn has to offer. The first time I wrap that scarf around my neck I want to scrunch up my shoulders and sigh deeply in cosy satisfaction. Learning to appreciate the small things in a time like this I think will make all the difference, I want to notice each tree turn one by one from green to orange, I want to watch a single leaf fall, I want to stand in silence as an owl stalks his prey and most of all I want to get outside, feel the wind in my hair, the cold brush against my face and the frost nip my nose. I want to hear the wild waves raw against the cliffs and the mud squelch around my wellies. I want that devilishly creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream to feel well and truly earnt. Autumn 2020 bring us whatever misery you have in store because armed with the autumn pleasures of Mother Nature, nothing will break me.
